COMMUNITY EVENT OF THE YEAR: Blackwood Woodchop & Easter Carnival

The Carnival celebrated its 120th year in 2022, with approximately 2,600 adults and 1,400 children attending the carnival on Easter Saturday.

Although the event varies slightly from year to year, it remains true to its roots, celebrating simplicity, old style fun and the Carnival’s history. Longstanding activities include the gumboot throw, a treasure hunt with map, pet show, children’s running and novelty races, the Tug-O-War and the woodchop, which is the keystone event of the day.

The event celebrates Blackwood’s history, and the long-standing traditions of the event, which began as a town gathering and sports day. Gold panning instruction has been added to the day and a musical program has also been included.
